  • Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church is a strong rural Southern Baptist Convention congregation that was founded in 1866. This sacred church site is surrounded by a historical burial ground that is also situated within a community that was platted but never founded called Allegheny. Directly to the north is the Dr. Mitchell Farm, which is known as being a refuge for African American Slaves who where fleeing the South via the Underground Railroad system in the mid to late 1800's. Ironically, north of the Dr. Mitchell Farm approximately 2.5 miles was once a community named Locust Grove that also was known by the locals as "LITTLE AFRICA". Here the McCreery Family had moved their family and owned slaves and settled upon their newfound and purchased land during the 1800's. The only remnants of Locust Grove is the sacred burial ground at the former church site of the Allen A.M.E. Chapel, which served as the spiritual refuge to the McCreery Family Slaves and their descendants. Each Memorial Day Weekend, the Allen A.M.E Chapel cemetery and church site becomes the venue for the Allen Family Reunion, descendants of the original McCreery Family slaves. Coming from around the globe and throughout the continental United States, it is a time of food, fellowship and spiritual celebration of their family heritage and family triumphs.
