  • My Great Grandfather, Job Downen, was instrumental in building and establishing this church. He moved here from Carmi, Illinois where he had a farm and was blessed with 10 children. Earlier in life, he fought in the Civil war and was captured and taken to Andersonville prison where he stayed until the war ended. I have not been to this church for over 10 years. At that time, the little wood frame church was still standing, but not active. The cemetery was still there where Job was buried as well as my great uncle Clyde Downen.
